The beauty of the AMACO Velvet Underglazes is that they are so versatile! In this video we use them to create a transfer image onto a soft slab which we then push into foam using a GR Pottery Form drape mold and POOF we have a pot!

REMEMBER: For this technique to work, you have to print out the design on a LASER ink jet printer not just an ink jet printer. If you print out the design on an ink jet printer, the printed design will smear when wet and it will not resist the underglaze.

Creating a Transfer Poof Pot

Step 1

Print out a design on a laser ink printer.

Step 2

Make an inverted copy of the original design, then choose one.

Step 3

Trace the drape mold around the chosen design.

Step 4

Choose your colors. We used V-388 Radiant Red and V-343 Chartreuse.

Step 5

Apply two coats of Velvet Underglaze to the printed design.

Quick Tip: If underglaze gets on the black ink, it will bead up. Carefully wipe it away!

Step 6

Trace the mold on the slab and cut it out.

Step 7

Lay your design face down on the slab.

Step 8

Lightly spritz the design with water.

Step 9

Use a rib to smooth the paper and transfer the image.

Step 10

Use a damp sponge to apply more water if needed.

Step 11

Carefully peel back the paper.

Step 12

Once the underglaze is dry to the touch, place the slab on several layers of foam.

Step 13

Place the drape mold over the slab and push into the foam.

Step 14

Allow to dry, then bisque fire to Cone 04.

Step 15

Use a damp sponge to wipe away dust.

Step 16

Apply 2 even coats of LG-10 Clear Transparent, then glaze fire to Cone 05.
