Create your own Halloween decor with this fun and easy DIY Clay Lantern project in your studio!!

This lantern was glazed with 3 coats of PC-56 Ancient Copper on the outside and 3 coats of PC-63 Cosmic Tea Dust on the inside, and then fired to Cone 5!

Throwing a Paper Bag Lantern

Step 1

Throw a 5" tall cylinder.

Step 2

Form into a rectangle. Use a metal rub to smooth the sides, starting at the base.

Step 3

Add indents on the sides to create the bag shape

Step 4

Use a wire tool to cut off and remove the piece from the wheel

Step 5

Allow piece to firm up to leather-hard

Step 6

Cut spooky faces on both sides

Step 7

Cut angles at the top of the bag

Step 8

Soften the edges using a damp sponge

Step 9

Allow the piece to dry, then bisque-fire to cone 04.

Step 10

Apply 3 coats of PC-56 Ancient Copper to the outside and 3 coats of PC-63 Cosmic Tea Dust to the inside.

Step 11

Glaze fire to cone 5.
